The Four Agreements and the New Agreements at work are unique from other quality improvement approaches. With the support of leadership, systems improvements are created primarily by frontline staff who are directly involved in doing the work. Ownership by frontline staff makes change sustainable. Participation on the improvement teams is voluntary and by choice only. It normally starts small with focus on a trouble spot or two and grows spontaneously as successes by those doing the work are shared with their peers. This program stands alone or can act as a supercharger for most other evidence-based quality improvement programs such as Six Sigma, Lean, Lean Sigma, Learning Organization (Senge), Deming, or others.
We are teachers as well as consultants and part of this process is to teach internal teachers so that the work continues after we move on. Results are impressive and speak for themselves. However. the Four Agreements and the New Agreements at work are not for everyone. To successfully implement the Agreements require leaders who are willing to grow professionally and who will support the frontline staff in creating sustainable change. However, with leadership’s support and 12-18 months of inspired work by frontline staff, any organization will be significantly changed for the better.
